This mug features classical artwork after an Attic red-figure scene (Classical period). Hephaestus (Ἥφαιστος) walks with cap and mallet as Dionysus (Διόνυσος) leads him, holding a thyrsos and a cup. They’re joined by Komoidia (Κωμῳδία), the personification of Comedy (i.e., Thalia), bearing a vessel, and the satyr Marsyas (Μαρσύας) playing the double-pipes, cloaked in panther skin. A procession of craft, wine, and laughter.
